Outfit update

Forever New top, Jay Jays high waisted shorts, YSL arty ring, Natasha sandals and RayBan folding wayfarers.

It’s starting to get quite hot in the tropics and it’s technically only spring. The great thing about this outfit is not only is it cool and easy to wear, it was also under $100 for the top and shorts.

Lioness dress, Tony Bianco Shoes, Eclettica clutch

This is my newest number from Princess Polly. The dress was $70 (I think) and is a thicker jersey-like material. So while it’s probably not the coolest dress — given summer is around the corner — I figured if I’m going to be hot, I might as well do it looking hot.

Zimmermann floating Vase bikini

A new bikini for summer — what could be better? This is my second purchase from Surf Stitch and my gosh they deliver quickly. I’ve loved this floral pattern since I first saw it and finally I decided to indulge a little. Pretty good fit, but I wouldn’t like to wear this top in rough surf or anything.

Ba&sh top, Paige Premium Denim shorts, Repetto flats, Ray Ban folding wayfarers

Possibly one of my favourite casual outfits right now. It’s so comfy and chic and effortless; not to mention it’s great for the cold classroom to steamy outside transition between classrooms at uni. I will probably wear this till it’s falling apart and looking daggy as all hell.

21st birthday outfit

I can’t remember if I ever posted a picture of the outfit I wore to my 21st after all the effort I went to putting it together. Apologizes if I’ve already blogged this and am suffering amnesia.

I found this lovely Zimmermann dress in Melbourne while on holidays and was surprised at the time something strapless actually stayed up on me for once. The cut of the dress is very flattering on the female figure too; possibly something to do with the nicely cinched waisted and sweetheart neckline.

I did have a fair amount of trouble finding things to go with it. At first I tried contrasting it against block colours to no success. My turquoise necklace looked great but it wasn’t quite the look I was going for. I tried on purple, black, everything. Eventually a friend suggested a rather obvious choice I hadn’t thought of: gold and diamanté costume jewellery. While looking for something of this description, however, I found a lovely gold and shell leaf necklace that matched perfectly, along with some great gold and shell bangles to match all from Lovisa.

I paired the dress and jewellery with my white and gold YSL arty ring, some Betts Dorothy glitter pumps (which apparently come up more silver than gold in pictures), and a nice white and gold beaded clutch from Forever New. I really love how it all turned out. Not something I usually wear but perfect for a summer cocktail birthday party.

Recently I’ve been playing with different outfits revolving around the dress; hopefully I can fond plenty more to style it with. Definitely a great buy!

P.s. My brother just so happens to own the room with the full length mirror in it and happened to have tyres sitting in there on the weekend. Related: I feel like they make me look even shorter! Oh dear.

Playsuit Mayhem

Ok, so I may just have a slight obsession with playsuits right now. In my defence, playsuits rarely ever fit me – so in other words, while my body is in the right proportions for a girl of 156cm, my torso and legs are usually still too short for some outfits (such as Zimmermann’s Tender Calligraphy Dress).

I found the lovely Zimmermann silk pictured below in the Brisbane boutique on Adelaide St. A lovely little store; it’s a bit exciting to think I have a relatively close boutique to my hometown (even if I have to catch a 2 hour flight to visit it).

The playsuit isn’t online (either it’s sold out or simply hasn’t gone up/never went up) so I was determined to be frugal enough on my trip so I could get it. And I did. Probably the Accountant’s daughter side coming out in me.

Awesomely enough, the playsuit matched my new red London Rebel heels perfectly. Unfortunately I did not have a red bag, nor could I find one I liked enough, to complete the look. So instead, as you can probably see, I had to use a black bag which still looked lovely.

I tried keeping the look sleek by wearing my hair to the side, minimal gold jewellery and just a bold red lip. Some of that is a bit hard to see in the picture, I know.

The night ended up being great fun and I felt super comfy knowing I was sort-of wearing shorts. It made running to catch the train a bit easier, for starters.

I’ll be wearing this outfit again as soon as I can and will hopefully find plenty more ways of wearing it. XO

Simple Glam Rock Chic

I love coated J Brand skinnies – so very rock chic. There’s no better tank to wear with a pair of skinnies than a Zimmermann silk tank; buy every colour you like and you’ll be guaranteed to use. Paired with my favourite stilettos of the moment, Tony Bianco’s Karissa, and a great box clutch and statement jewellery and you’re good to go. Love this look!

Zimmermann Lust

I’m a big fan of the Zimmermann Spring/Summer RTW 2010/11 Collection. If I had gotten the chance to get my hands on more I definitely would have taken the chance. Unfortunately, as a non-online shopper and without a Zimmermann boutique or David Jones in the near vicinity, I couldn’t. The collection is full of the most amazingly beautiful prints, styled in cuts ranging from the classical to the modern.

As with most Zimmermann clothes I’ve so far encountered, only a few items fitted me – I find that a Zimmermann size 0 is more often than not, nearly a size to big; limiting my choices. However, Miss Ruby did receive one of my favourites from the collection – the Vertigo Spirograph Tank Dress and luckily for me, it fit!

Being on a budget in order to fuel my shopping spree while on holidays, I didn’t purchase the dress straight away and instead simply stared at it longingly for months. Luckily,  it was meant to be, as I ended up purchasing it on sale for $150 thanks to Christmas money from relatives who didn’t know what to get me. In both Melbourne and Sydney this particular dress has completely sold out from every Zimmermann stockist.

The dress is ultra light (100% silk) and very easy to wear – a t-shirt bra and grey or nude underwear can be easily worn beneath without showing. As the dress is a softer colour, it’s best paired with nude or black accessories. Day or night, this dress is great for all occasions.

While on holidays in Melbourne I discovered the Fleeting Tank Dress in Lilac Floral Stripe in David Jones on Bourke Street. This lovely little number is the perfect party dress – it’s girly, it’s comfy (100% silk) and it flatters most shapes. Like the spirograph dress, this is also sold out nearly all Zimmermann boutiques and most David Jones. Although, last time I was there David Jones in Bourke Street did still have 3 or so. This style of dress also comes in a pale purple, black and a blue equivalent of the lilac floral stripe.

The fleeting tank dress goes best with nude accessories that compliment the feminine design of the dress, although, like the spirograph dress, black proves to be a great contrasting colour. For a more casual look tan accessories will dress this gorgeous number down.

The endless fashion cycle

I’m no longer sure whether humans are capable of not wanting anything. Our whole lives seem to be made up of it. I for one am definitely subject to continually wanting things. More specifically: fashion. Working around all gorgeous labels as I do, I always seem to have a wish list going.

The other day this lovely dress Japanese woman came into work. She was wearing a cream and black striped Lisa Ho dress (I would tell you the name but I can’t remember it) with little black brogue shoes and this ever so lovely Country Road messenger bag. Ever since then I’ve been thinking, “I NEED/WANT a messenger bag”, and the Proenza Schouler PS1 Medium leather satchel I’ve pictured is the current one I’ve been obsessing over. Out of my price range but I will be searching for a style very similar to the Proenza Schouler one.

Every time I feel like I’ve stopped wanting something, something else comes along. There are just too many cute clothes items on the market these days! Lately I’ve indulged in a few pieces and I’ve included photos for some of them. Starting with the most recent; I finally own True Religion Brand Jeans denim! A very sweet pair of white denim shorts. I got them for half price at The Sale Shop in Townsville and while they’re half a size too big, I already love them. They’re still selling on the True Religion site, however, if you can find them locally, they’re probably a better price.

Next up is a gorgeous necklace from another local store in Townsville’s mall. At Milou Dress House I found a turquoise cross on a leather chain for $19. Bargain, I say. With rosary beads a hot item on the market at the moment, this turquoise cross necklace is a nice alternative.

Princess Polly has now opened up in Townsville. Originally a Brisbane and Mackay based store as well as E-boutique, the store is located in the CBD on Denham Street. This week alone the store appeared to have been painted, fitted, filled with clothes and then opened to trade. If you’re in the area it’s worth checking out. There are some lovely pieces such as this Shape Shifter dress. Although, I preferred the black with little white flowers version they had in store.

Princess Polly Shape Shifter dress

I decided not to get the shape shifter dress simply because in a week or two I’ll be wearing my camilla and marc letter frock, which is amazing and therefore, I won’t need another a strapless maxi to wear just yet. The Princess Polly dress I did buy was the Veronica Dress in rose-pink. It’s very 80’s inspired and as much as I love the 80’s, I don’t think I’ll be wearing my black Tony Bianco punk/gladiator-esque stiletto’s with them just yet. Instead I’ll be pairing them with my lovely tanned Natasha platforms and my Louis Vuitton clutch.

A few weeks ago I was at a friend’s 20th birthday, when I saw one of his friends dressed in black skinny jeans and an oversize/baggy grey tee with a big black sequined bow on it. Ever since then I’ve been on a hunt for a grey baggy tee with a black bow and have come up short. Then suddenly, Miss Ruby gets new Wildfox Couture in and voilà, the search is over. Needless to say I snapped it up straight away, as did everyone else who laid eyes on it within 2 days of it arriving in store. I plan on teaming this cutie with my JBrand pitch leggings and some black Tony Bianco heels for an understated sexy look.

Hopefully, I won’t be spending any more money in the near future, as I need to start saving so I can shop in Melbourne in January and Japan in June/July. Although, I will have my eye out for a nicely cut black jacket, similar to ones in the last season of Karen Walker and a simple black skirt that’s appropriate for all occasions.
