Just a quick blog/study break with a few things I’m lusting after right now. Oh how I wish my budget looked like it does normally!

Camilla and Marc dress from I would totally wear this as a guest to my brother’s formal if my bank account was looking a bit better and I wasn’t so concerned about looking like one of the students. The colour is amazing!

I love Paige Premium Denim’s verdugo jeggings also from They’re slightly thicker than J Brand jeggings but just as comfy and they’re oh-so soft! I have a burgundy colour already but wouldn’t mind this lovely magenta colour as it’s the kind of colour that goes with everything! Plus they’re a little bit attention grabbing, but not too much.

Next up are some gorgeous Witchery sandals. They look great on and I love the multiple coloured ankle strap. Just add a sweet little top, short shorts and a small handbag and you’ll be ready to roll! I’m currently torn between buying these or a cute pair of sandals from Country Road. As the Twitter world would say, first world problem, much?

If you too are bored and needing a break from study during exam period, it’s definitely worth checking some of these items out; perhaps you can buy now for a post-exam treat in two weeks? X

Today’s Outfit

Today’s outfit for a day of uni work and lunch with the boyfriend consisted of:
• Oneteaspoon hawks in blanco
• Someday’s Lovin’ printed top
• YSL arty ring
• Natasha t-bar sandals
• LV bag
• Fishtail braid
• pink/brown/cream hues for my eyeshadow

Overall a very comfy outfit that I haven’t tried before. Cute & summery!

P.S. Excuse the ridiculous mess that is my boyfriend’s room!

ASOS lust

This afternoon I spent a few hours lusting after some clothes on ASOS and I thought I would share a few of my favourites with you all! I may not be able to afford any clothes for the next few weeks (thanks to too much splurging on things in Auckland) but I can at least look… And maybe if I’m naughty I’ll turn a blind eye and sneak something past my self-imposed clothes ban.

Outfit lust #1: ASOS Petite dress with full pleated skirt and sequin embellishment $123.30

I love this so much; it’s the perfect balance between a party dress and a chic dinner gown. I don’t often buy dresses that hit just below the knee because they usually make me look shorter than I already am; but I would probably make an exception for this dress. Ladies, if you’re tall-ish, please buy this!

Outfit lust #2: ASOS Petite Exclusive mesh insert skater dress AU$73.98

I love this because it’s so very lady-like and reminds me of something Audrey Hepburn would wear in Breakfast At Tiffany’s. It’s a shame my city doesn’t have any more racing events coming up otherwise I’d have a great excuse to wear it. Melbourne Cup, perhaps?

Outfit lust #3: ASOS Exclusive playsuit with pleat neck detail (in either purple or blue) AU$57.54

The budget might be tight post-holiday but this is so cute I’m having a lot of trouble resisting it. Perfect for a hot summer’s night out on the town, or for lunch with the girls. I just need to work out which colour I prefer.

Outfit lust #4: ASOS Petite green skinny jeans AU$52.61

I’ve been wanting a pair of green skinny jeans ever since the coloured jeans trend started, but I figured I start with colbalt blue and work my way from there. Now that I own a cobalt blue and maroon red pair, I think it’s time to progress onto green. This ASOS pair are just the right price to sneak into my limited clothes budget at the moment too.

Outfit lust #5: ASOS lace shell top AU$36.17

Another item I am seriously considering breaking my clothes ban for. I’ve always wanted a black lace top but I’ve never found the right cut; I love this top because it has no puffy sleeves and it’s just simple and chic.

Outfit lust #6: ASOS Petite super long pussy bow blouse (in black or white) AU$49.32

Pussy bow blouses are one of my favourite types of tops around. Of course the only problem for me is the sleeves are usually too long–which is where ASOS Petite comes in handy. The oversized bow is very cute and this top would match my Zimmermann skater skirt nicely. Definitely the kind of shirt you don’t lean over the table in though!

Outfit lust #7: Ally Capellino bracelets AU$62.47

I’ll admit it, I’m a serial bracelet addict; I’m sure one can never have enough of them! This bracelet is one I would love to add to my collection.

Last, but not least, outfit lust #8: French Connection silk shift dress with beaded collar, on sale for AU$118.37

Probably my favourite of all the items I’ve pictured. I love the beading on the collar, as well as the lovely colour and the unique back. I can think of so many places to wear this dress. Another one to add to the list of things I’m considering breaking my clothes ban for.

And now I must be off to contemplate whether one of these lovely pieces is worth breaking the clothes ban for. Feel free to comment and tell me your favourite item!

The NYE Outfit

As far as the saying goes, new year’s eve never quite seems to go according to plan. In a way, it should be one of Murphy’s Law’s – those who expect a great NYE, never seem to get it and those who expect a bad one, always seem pleasantly surprised. I haven’t experienced too many solo NYE’s (and by solo I mean, not having anything to do with family), but those that I have always seem to follow this theory in some ways. I’ve learnt never to expect too much from the event. Because the less you expect, the less annoyed you get and the easier it is to go with the flow. One thing I always put a lot of thought into and always expect to be fantastic is my new year’s eve outfit. I mean, who doesn’t want to look good starting off a new year? And the best way to ensure you look good is to make sure you plan in advanced.

Thanks to my trip to Melbourne with my mother in January, I’m saving like crazy and therefore, have limited money to spend on myself at the moment. After all, no one wants to be surrounded by the lovely selection of clothes offered in Melbourne with no money to afford them! However, I did manage to squeeze a new, new year’s eve outfit into my budget. My absolute limit was $200 (such a shame I had a budget too because otherwise I would have convinced myself I needed the gorgeous silk tiered trapeze dress by Willow in Miss Ruby at the moment).

Much to my delight, after shopping around, I found a lovely $90 dress by a brand named Lumiér in Peaches N Lola in Flinders St Mall. While the trends may once again be changing, last season was my first encounter with the nude palette. I tended to avoid it in previous years because I used to think it might make me look too much like my mother or because I thought it would make my skin look more yellow than it already is. Now I’m quite partial to my mother’s favourite colours such as camels and khaki’s (I’m dying for a cute khaki dress) and so, when I came across this lovely high-necked nude dress I was ecstatic. The dress looks lovely both belted as well as plain and seems to suit both silver and gold accessories. I may even try a nice purple tone with it at some point. For new year’s, however, I will be pairing it with the cute black and diamante belt, which I picked up in Dotti, as well as my favourite Ecclettica black clutch and one of my pairs of black heels.

Being the fashion-crazy person I am, while shopping around I came across a lovely cream silk dress in Forever New for $100. Bit of a bargain if you ask me. I’m quite into flowy, trapeze shaped clothes at the moment – something my boyfriend tends to dislike. However, even he had to admit this little number was a winner and I simply couldn’t pass it up. I plan wearing it to my friend’s 21st birthday this weekend and possibly on Christmas day if I’m in a dress wearing mood. For the birthday bash, however, I will be wearing it with my cute plaited tan belt that matches perfectly to my favourite Natasha sandals.

Two dresses, $200 – quite the bargain if you ask me. My clothes cravings will definitely be satisfied now until I head to Melbourne (assuming I don’t go into Witchery and become tempted by their 50% off sale – oh dear!)

Cigarettes and Visual Merchandising

A local mens store in my city currently has a manikin in the window with a paper bag on its head, drawn on facial-features and a cigarette glued to its sharpie-drawn mouth. Next to it is a female manikin trying to kiss/make out with paper-bag-dude.
I’m sorry but that is by no means a good window display. I’ve seen manikins styled in many ways – some stores have them pretending to run, but these manikins took it to another level. They looked cheap and tacky. The clothes on the manikin are nice, so it’s a shame you get too distracted by the cigarette to look at them. If you want to be edgy, different, attention grabbing, think of something other than a paper bag and a cigarette. Please, I beg of you!

Witchery comes to Townsville!

The new development in Castletown was revealed on September 30 to a huge success. The renovation looks wonderful; very bright with wide isles and a very polished finish. Newcomers to Townsville, Witchery and Forever New, caused quite a commotion, with heaps of clothes selling out within the first few days. Universal Store now has a larger store, prompting thoughts that their previous space in Castletown was only very temporary until the new section was completed. Foxx Fo and Hunter were also among the newcomers. Hunter is part of the Jaxx/Stella Moda local company that is extremely popular with both older teenagers and young adults and their new store has the same boutique vibe, only now it’s located in a major shopping complex. Foxx Fo has some similar brands as Hunter, only for a cheaper price. If you’re a bargain hunter definitely have a dig through there, however, those who are older may be less likely to find things to their taste as the store is predominately a 15 to 20-something year old market.

Personally, I’m a big fan of Witchery and I purchased a lovely black skirt and blue and grey striped top on the opening night of Castletown’s new section. The skirt doubles both as something more dressy and as a great work-experience/internship skirt and the top is also more corporate but looks awesome paired with darker jeans.

Witchery skirt $100 and top $60 - both versatile and super cute pieces!

Other pieces I love are the V Neck Tunic in Navy, although, for a while I contemplated getting it in Khaki/Oatmeal. As well as the Silk Drape Trapeze Dress.

My latest journalism assignment is actually to review Castletown’s redevelopment and take photos of some outfits. When it’s published I will post the outfit’s (both men’s and women’s) I choose as well as post my more in-depth review!
